1875p Gold Dollar, Indian Head Liberty, Type 3  (1856-1889)

    NGC PR65cameo

1 of 2 graded - Finest Known

$25,000.00

This is a very interesting date.  The 1875 has one of the lowest mintages of any regular issued U.S. gold coin.  With only 420 mint state strikings and just 20 proof strikes, essentially all specimens are "first strikes".  Accordingly, and as pointed out by noted gold expert and author David Akers, most specimens "...invariably have full proof-like surfaces. This has given rise to the false notion that the 1875p is more common in proof than it is in uncirculated condition.  Most cataloguers have mistakenly called mint state specimens "proofs" over the years....The proof is a great rarity, and deserves to be recognized as such."

This specimen is absolutely stunning.  Beautiful, deep reflective proof surfaces frame the outstanding frosted devices.  As one should expect from a "proof", the strike is strong, bold and detailed.

An outstanding rarity for the connoisseur.
